This is a poem dedicated to my late grandfather who has inspired me in so many ways and has always brought out the best in me. I remember him everyday by never giving up, never taking “no” for an answer and by always doing what is right.
One Morning (for Tatha)
One morning you silently sang
me a song I remember.
I understood it not,
but sang it quietly in my head.
While its brief words passed over rapid like, I clung to them
like dimness in burned out candle light.
you made me ask and question and probe.
Now I know not what it means and know what it means.
I suppose I should weep
as children do,
when they come too close to fire.
Yet I will be still
for our song demands it.
For how can one sing as they tear?
And though you are the tune that
strings me together,
and the notes which phantom my way,
I know you bid me mend and piece
and remake and renew and remember forever. And forever endless will it resonate
in the deepest depths of my heart
until I depart in peaceful harmony.
